How do I cope with being bullied on the way home from school?

Walking home today, a gang of girls from two years below me started throwing things at me and yelling. I'm really worried it's going to happen again, what do I do? Change my route home?
It's really upset me.
It only happened for the first time today.

Yes, don't let it go on. Tell any adults who care about you, and if they don't do anything talk loud
